Building an IT Career in Canada

Right now I am a full time student in Seneca College majoring in Computer and Network Support.

Having devoted to it for years, I love this career. Even though it is so hard to get a job in such position. What encourages me is that months ago I obtained several interviews on the position of Desktop Support or something like that, one even from IBM. Unfortunately I failed all, mainly because of my poor English communication. As you know, I have kept studying in ESL school to improve it, yet I think it is not enough. So I decided to register in a college. For one thing, I can upgrade my knowledge. Whereas the main purpose is to find a better environment to improve my English. Now I think it is a correct choice. Now I am making full use of every chance to improve my English communication skills in my study.

Of course, at the same time I keep working parttime, as an order picker.  First, I must make my living. Second, it is also an opportunity to practice my English and to know about the Canadian society. For example, through this job I have accumulated abundant knowledge about GTA, and I have experienced a lot about Canada life, such as wedding, convention, even golf. I like this job, except too much driving.

Anyway I will keep it. As a result, I am getting pretty busy. Before we came to Canada, I was told that what I might need is time for sleep, not money. Now I believe it. It is normal to go to bed after 1 or 2 o'clock, especially on weekends. Though hard as it is, my family, both my wife, my daughter and I, are living a positive life. Because we believe if we try our best, we can make a better future. And this is also the reason we come here.  Finally, I would like to express my thanks again to all you staff. For newcomers like us, we do appreciate what you are doing.
