Time for Renewal!
After a long and cold Canadian winter, we all truly appreciate the warmth of summer. As gray skies give way to sunny days, we hope you get a chance to get outdoors and enjoy! It’s an ideal time to renew your commitment to helping others. As a CanadaInfoNet mentor, the time and energy that you devote to your protégé makes a difference in the lives of individuals as well as in our community. We thank you for your on-going commitment, and we hope that you will continue to find your mentoring experience rich and rewarding. We hope this e-letter provides you with helpful information that will assist in your career and personal development, as well as in your role as a mentor.
Portfolio Power
The portfolio is a vital career-marketing tool. On April 30th, CanadaInfoNet offered a portfolio workshop, facilitated by Natasha Stor, for mentors interested in learning about how to create an effective portfolio. The Portfolio Advantage workshop was a resounding success, with a great number of mentors from diverse occupations in attendance. Some of the positive feedback included: "Thank you so much! I finally understand what goes in a portfolio!" and, "It made me consider the importance of documenting accomplishments and supporting evidence." CanadaInfoNet will be holding more Portfolio Advantage workshop for mentors, as well as offering the workshop to private organizations and professional groups for a fee that will be invested into the CanadaInfoNet program. To book this dynamic workshop, please contact Brigid Elmy at CanadaInfoNet, 416-787-1151, ext. 221.

CanadaInfoNet Making the World a Smaller Place
Marco, a native of Colombia, decided to emigrate to Canada but wanted to educate himself about his new home prior to his arrival. He was determined to learn as much about Canada as possible so that his settlement would unfold smoothly. "I decided I needed to learn about the Canadian environment, the conditions and the culture," he says. "I wanted to do this before leaving Colombia so I would be prepared."
